Understanding Permits to Work

Permits to Work are formal documents used to supplement risk assessments and safe systems of work, providing additional controls for high-risk activities or hazardous environments. They do not replace existing safety measures but work alongside them to ensure that all workers, including contractors and specialists, are competent, informed, and fully aware of the hazards that could affect their health, safety, and wellbeing.

This course provides an overview of the purpose and correct use of Permits to Work, highlighting their role in promoting safe working practices. Learners will gain a clear understanding of when a permit is required, how it should be issued and managed, and their responsibilities under the permit system.
