Pregnancy is a natural part of working life, but it introduces unique health, safety, and wellbeing considerations in the workplace. Employers have a legal duty to protect pregnant employees from risks that could affect their health or the health of their baby. This course provides learners with a clear understanding of employer and employee responsibilities, how to identify and control risks, and how to create a supportive working environment during pregnancy.
By completing this course, learners will gain the knowledge and confidence to ensure pregnancy is managed safely and respectfully within the workplace.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the legal requirements surrounding pregnancy in the workplace, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, and the Equality Act 2010.
- Recognise when and how to review risk assessments for pregnant employees, and understand the importance of ongoing assessment as circumstances change.
- Identify common workplace risks that may affect pregnant employees, including physical, chemical, environmental, and psychosocial hazards.
- Describe appropriate control measures and reasonable adjustments that can be made to protect health and wellbeing during pregnancy.
- Understand the role of communication and support in managing pregnancy at work, including confidentiality and return-to-work planning.
